Global Atlas: Proper Nouns, From Wikipedia to LMF

Gil Francopoulo, Frédéric Marcoul, David Causse, Grégory Piparo · 2013

This chapter detects automatically named entities in 18 European languages. This process uses a large list of proper nouns extracted from various Wikipedias, each of them being in a specific language. These nouns are merged and represented in lexical markup framework (LMF). Named entities are key elements in modern applied Natural Language Processing (NLP) processing. The term, “named” aims to restrict the parameters to only those entities for which one or many rigid designators stand for the referent. Global Atlas is a large multilingual knowledge base dedicated to text mining in the domain of market intelligence and e-reputation computation at Spotter.
