Optimal infinite impulse response (IIR) filters for sigma-delta demodulator circuits

Saman S. Abeysekera, Zhunquan Zang · 2002

The design of optimal IIR filters that can be used in /spl Sigma/-/spl Delta/ demodulator circuits is presented. Because of its simplicity, IIR architecture is well suited to VLSI implementation over the FIR architecture. The optimal IIR filter structure design described is based on the Laguerre series expansion of a rational transfer function. Simulation results indicate that the Laguerre filter approach is more efficient than a straight-forward implementation of IIR filters.
