Use Studies and Serials Rationalization
Christopher Millson-Martula · The Serials Librarian · 1988
As academic librarians are confronted by financial constraints and the need for accountabilitv, it is incumbent upon them to demonstrate their professionalism in the management of their serials collections. In those institutions that are not heavily research- oriented, the objective should be the development of a usercentered collection that is based on demonstrated use and need and for which rational management decisions are made before crises arise. At the same time, however, attention must be paid to the local politics of the situation, namely, faculty opinion.
