Chapter 1 describes the establishment of the Microsoft Foundation Class (MFC) library and some of its fundamental components. MFC library has more than 200 classes with thousands of member functions available for developing applications. These rich resources include many graphical user interface tools for developing applications on desktop, web, databases and communications. Our discussion includes the MFC class hierarchical organization, graphics device interface (GDI) and the numerical functions for developing applications. We also discuss the steps for creating the first Windows program consisting of some basic text and graphic displays using the non-wizard option
