Object-Oriented Computing Techniques in Ship Design
T. W. Carnduff, William A. Gray · 1991
The object-oriented programming paradigm allows the designer to represent features of a ship in a natural and intuitive manner. This paper explores the principal features of the object-oriented approach by considering the determination of the hydrostatic particulars of both ships and semi-submersible rigs. The use by ship designers of relational database systems is becoming increasingly common, however, the relational model is deficient in some respects. These deficiencies are identified and an alternative, object-oriented data model is described and its application to structural analysis is presented.
