SOA in Action
Franck Barbier, Jean‐Luc Recoussine · 2015
This chapter characterizes the model-driven development (MDD) method that has mechanisms to extract such knowledge as: the existing currency conversion functionalities, the business rules that govern their functioning, and the business processes fed by these. Instead of incorporating a Currency service into the application that supports the Payment business process, the followed SOA strategy is reusing Currency as a ready-to-use Internet computing resource. The SOA is justified with regard to common business-oriented language (COBOL) and its so-awaited modernization. However, precautions are required in a SOA strategy. Before the implementation of an enterprise service bus (ESB) or a private cloud, to make SOA real, there are hands-on considerations to outline: interface types and protocol issues; substitutability issue; functional sophistication issue; sustainability issue; pricing issue; QoS issue; and interoperability issue.
