An Experiment in Framework Development
Eduardo Casais · Theory and Practice of Object Systems · 1995
An object‐oriented framework provides a family of interrelated classes that can be reused, mainly through composition, for the rapid construction of various programs in a particular application domain. Experience with libraries of domain‐specific software components has been limited so far, so that design principles for frameworks are currently lacking. We present a case study dealing with the development of a framework to build control and simulation programs for manufacturing plant models. The case study gives insights into the design and architecture of application‐specific frameworks, and into the special requirements imposed by framework construction.
