Object oriented data modelling
P.-A. Carebrand · International Symposium on Switching · 2005
Centralized operation of telecommunication networks is pointing at the need for a standardized management interface between the Operations Systems (OS) and the Network Elements (NE). Such an interface would allow for a rational communica tion between NE.'s and OS.s and also provide the basis for an optimal allocation of functions in the network. One inWrtant part of that interface is represented by doe enfilies(resources in the NetwwrkElement that interact with the Management Appli cations in the OS. The entiliest resources that should be possible to manage are then called managed objects. The managed objects can be described in an object oriented data model, which Provides information on the included objects, relationshOs and dependencies between the objects and also the properties (attributes) of the objects. ThisPaPer describes thepurpose, concept and the definition of the Management Information Model of telecom switches. it also discusses what information the model should contain (major aspects per management application) and the level of deter minism ic. what OW ofconclusions andpredictions can be made ftom the model. The modelling concepts, technique and the contents are based on the work by the standardization committees, like TIM1, andfrom experiencesqfAXE system development.
