Introduction to Content‐Based Image Retrieval—Overview of Key Techniques

In this chapter, past and current technical achievements in visual feature extraction and integration, multidimensional indexing, and content-based image retrieval (CBIR) system design are reviewed. A new family member of ISO/MPEG, known as MPEG-7, which aims to create a standard for describing the content of multimedia data is also briefly introduced.
