A Crash Course in SPSS for Windows: Updated for Versions 10, 11, 12 and 13

Venkata Putcha · Journal of the Royal Statistical Society Series A (Statistics in Society) · 2008

This book provides an inexpensive and quick way to become familiar with SPSS software. The title phrase ‘crash course’ is correct. Before the first of 17 chapters, a reference guide for applied statisticians or social scientists is offered, describing ‘which statistical procedure to use’ and a table with ‘where to find things in SPSS’. Chapter 1 is introductory, describing the book layout, and offering useful references. It is suggested that not more than 10 hours are required to understand SPSS by using this book. Chapter 2 introduces the SPSS system version 13 for Windows. Screen shots indicate how to open SPSS software from this environment and how to work with it. This is an essential chapter for those who have no previous experience with SPSS software. Chapter 3 describes how to load and print data sets. Then simple statistical procedures are shown in Chapter 4, with more screen shots, a section that is devoted to describing the results and the use of the copy and paste technique.
