Abstract Model networks formed by the crosslinking of monodisperse carboxylated polystyrene chains with decamethylene glycol, were degraded by random cleavage of the crosslinks. The weight‐average molecular weights (M̄w) of the resulting soluble fractions quantitatively correlated with the gel degradation theory which is essentially the Flory‐Stockmayer gelation theory applied in reverse. As such, this paper furnishes support for the universal applicability of the gel degradation theory.
