Use case driven analysis of feature interactions.

Kristofer Kimbler, Daniel Søbirk · 1994

. This paper introduces a user-oriented approach to feature interaction analysis. The presented method is an extension of the Use Case Driven Analysis technique originating from Object Oriented Software Engineering. It aims first at creating the Use-Case Model which describes different possible ways of using the system services, and then at building the Service Usage Model which shows dynamic relations among the services and their features from user's point of view. The actual detection of feature interactions starts with generating possible call scenarios from the Service Usage Model. The sequences of events in the call scenarios are then analysed to detect interaction-prone combinations of the features. The application of the method to IN services, as well as the algorithm used for generating call scenarios and for detecting interaction-prone feature pairs are presented. A prototype tool support for the method is briefly discussed, and a few example of detected feature interaction ar...
