On the Acquisition of Verb Placement and Verb Projection Raising in Bernese Swiss German

The literature on the acquisition of verb placement in High German (henceforth HG) is mainly concerned with the application of the verb second (V/2) mechanism in declarative clauses. This mechanism comprises two “rules” standardly referred to as “V/2-Rule” and “V/final Rule”. The former denotes V-to-C movement in root structures, while the latter refers to the inability of the finite verb to move to the C position whenever this is occupied by a complementizer.
