On o- and p-Methyltropolones

In the previous report ~> it had been described that four kinds of compounds as€umed to be the derivatives of o-and p-methyltropolones were isolated, besides derivatives of m-methyltropolone, from the products obtained by the synthesis of methyltropolone starting with an isomeric mixture of cresol.The compounds obtained were : one kind of bromine-free methyltropolone (I), m.p. 110°; two kinds of monobromo derivatives, (II), m.p. 115°, and (III), m.p. 123°; and one kind of dibromo derivative (IV), m.p. 140°.The present authors have been able to establish the structures of these compounds which are described in the following.(I), colorless prisms, m.p. 109.5
