ABSTRAK The problem in this research is due to the fact that a large number of HP (Hand Phone) costumers in the rural areas of DIY experience difficulties to contact and be contacted by other costumers, especially by stationary costumers. This research was carried out in October 2002, using Siemens S4P HP, first, with the following procedures: by pressing the left soft key which functions to connect the power supply, and for next option menus by button 9 and 8 that function to engage the following programs, then again press the left soft key and continue to buttons 7,6,8,4,6,6,6,6 to activate the program and by OFF button. Finally by the push button followed by the left soft key and then buttons 5, 6 so that the screen displays the resulting data. The second procedure was to call set up as follows: by the left soft key button, which was followed by the called phone number and by twice the option button, and ,finally by the right option button and buttons 5, 6, so that the screen indicates the distance served by the BTS. Data analyzed in the research with regard to the BTS locations in the rural areas reveal clearly that some concrete solution should be implemented by installing the additional needed BTSs.
