The Application of Planning to Power Substation Voltage Control

The management of power substations is a complex control task involving the coordination of interactions between customer demand and substation components. In this paper we look at the efficient management of substations in a pre-fault state through the use of planning, considering the supply criteria, fault management and implied operational costs of control decisions. We discuss the modelling of the problem in PDDL and the performance of current state-of-the-art planners, followed by details of an optimisation system for the problem based around iterative refinement. 1
