This article examines an advanced digital signal processor chip: the TMS32030. The chip best serves as an application processor, blending its special processing power with communications and other computing capabilities. It can operate either as a stand-alone parallel processor, or as a support processor in a master-slave system. The clock synchronization facility enables several 32020s to be configured in parallel for greater computing power. The chip can also be connected to a general-host purpose host-processor. This configuration is illustrated in the paper.
