Connecting to Data in the Cloud

Kyle Burns · Apress eBooks · 2012

Modern applications are increasingly connected, often storing little or no permanent data on the device running the application and instead relying on one or more external services to handle storage, retrieval, or manipulation of data. This implies that communication has to take place between the client and server in order for the application’s job to get done. Communication of any sort requires not only the parties involved in the exchange to exchange data but for that data to be exchanged in a way that allows it to be understood by all parties and allowed to become information. In this chapter, I will cover some vocabularies and protocols that are used to exchange information between connected machines today, and I will give you an in-depth look at the Open Data Protocol (OData), which is increasingly popular because of its capability to communicate in a very simple manner. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
