And now for something completely familiar: a Python tutorial
Robert R. Lewis · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2001
Python is a general-purpose programming language of exceptional power and readability. By harmoniously integrating concepts from other languages such as C, C++, perl, Smalltalk, Java, and Tcl together with its own original features, it has grown in popularity in the past few years and has proven itself in a wide variety of application areas. In this tutorial, we will study the feature set of Python with special emphasis on its use as a first programming language. In this capacity, we feel it presents a better alternative to any of the above-named languages due to its clarity of expression, ease of debugging, and modularity. Unlike other (often functional) instructional languages, transforming a Python program into another object-oriented procedural language such as C++ is a fairly mechanical process, making Python an excellent prototyping and even specification language. Python is open-source and freely available for virtually every platform.
