Analysis and Design of Processor Schedules for Real Time Applications
A. A. Fredericks · Birkhäuser Boston eBooks · 1982
This paper is intended to provide some background on the concept of scheduling for systems with real time applications and to introduce the reader to some of the key issues in the design and analysis of these schedules. It illustrates the potential impact that scheduling in a stochastic environment can have on system performance, the need for constructing adequate probabilistic models and the difficulty in doing so. Several quidelines for processor scheduling are also given. These guidelines emerged from the analysis and design of a variety of actual systems and their use has resulted in substantial performance improvements and capacity increases for these systems.
