INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNITY ADVANCEMENT IN NIGERIA

Ogunojemite Gabriel Babajide · Journal of Curriculum and Instruction · 2009

During the early centuries, human beings had no means of communications effectively across long distance greater than their voices could be heard. They were unable to preserve their ideas mechanically. Under such conditions, a society can neither extend its influence over the people nor accumulate a rich heritage. Hence their social and cultural development remain an agonizing show. But with the recent development in science and technology, the world as a whole has been reduced to a global village through the application of information technology. This paper therefore highlights the roles and purposes of information technology in societal advancement. Some of the social and economic implications of using information technology were explored. Special emphasis was laid on benefits derivable from using computer for information management.
