Critical thinking in an introductory programming course

The need for an introductory Computer Science course in universities is well established. As computing impacts all aspects of modern life, it is advantageous for students (future generation work force) in other majors to learn more about computing. The author discusses an introductory programming course focusing on algorithmic problem solving approach can instill critical thinking, logical reasoning and problem solving skills to Liberal Arts students. This course emphasizes at first on the development of the steps of algorithm using pseudocode, instead of focusing on the complexity of the syntax of the language itself.
