We show that the functional \mathrm{I}(x) = \int _{0}^{\mathrm{T}}g(t,x(t))\:dt + \int _{0}^{\mathrm{T}}h(t,x′(\mathrm{t}))\:dt attains a minimum under the condition that g be concave in x .
