Transportation Research C is devoted to emerging technologies in the field of transportation - a field in which computer applications in system modelling, optimisation, surveillance and management have for almost half a century been such as to push against the prevailing frontiers of computing power, rapidly as these frontiers have expanded. Parallel computing offering as it does the prospect of a rapid further increase in computing power over and above what can be obtained by serial computing from a given generation of microelectronic hardware, it therefore indeed an emerging technology that is highly relevant to the field of transportation
