Protocols, Sessions, and State

Keir Davis, John W. Turner, Nathan Yocom · Apress eBooks · 2004

In chapter 1, we presented an introduction to the concept of protocols—in particular, protocol layering. Protocol layering lets us develop complementary protocols and use them together to handle a complex task, instead of trying to develop a single protocol that does everything everywhere. In this chapter, we’ll discuss different protocol architectures and methods, and step through real-world examples to explain them. These keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
