ADVANTAGES OF MULTI-ORGANIZATION COMPUTER AIDED DISPATCH (CAD) SYSTEMS

S T Coleman · 1998

In many municipalities seeking or providing Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems, the need exists to support multiple dispatch organizations. These organizations can include transit, paratransit, police, support, supervisory, and maintenance, to name a few. In order to fully exploit Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) initiatives within all agencies and in the industry as a whole, the challenges of multiple dispatch organizations must be met. Providing the public with up-to-date information and operations information begins with a well-equipped dispatch organization. Raytheon's Transportation Management Solutions (Raytheon TMS) has developed a multiple organization capable CAD system that successfully addresses these issues. The system has been fielded in Houston for the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority as a part of their Advanced Radio and Communications Computer Aided Dispatch System (ARCS). The system architecture and resultant benefits form the theme of this paper.
