Equivalence theory and generalized equivalence theory (GET) represent important progress in homogenization procedures and, in fact, yield rather accurate results when incorporated into coarse-mesh nodal calculations. However, they were developed in a somewhat ad hoc manner and appear not to have systematic mathematical bases.
