Reprogrammable DSP based guitar pedal
Jason R Nissen · The University of Queensland · 1999
Guitar pedals create sound effects by processing the audio signal from a guitar's pickups. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has provided the ability to create guitar effects boards that are more cost effective and have greater functionality, than the traditional analog devices. Today both analog and digital implementations are sold as a certain type of effect(s). However there is no reason why the effect(s) on a DSP based guitar pedal can't be changed, as they are simply programs. This thesis project successfuly built a generic DSP platform, where effects can be downloaded over a serial line from a Personal Computer. The software was designed to provide users with the ability to edit, swap and write their own effects.
