Consistency model transitions in shared memory

this paper I propose using shared memory consistency models for collaboration systems and exposing the consistency model to the users. In a chat room it would be nice if everyone saw all of the statements in the same order (sequential consistency), but in a widely distributed setting this could be too expensive. If sequential consistency provided unacceptable performance you could also get by with PRAM consistency where you see each person's statements in the order they were made. Causal consistency would work too with the added benet 2
