Solution System: Implementation of Self-Controlling Decision-Making Algorithms into Business Software Systems

Thomas H. Lenhard · 2008

In this paper, a short overview will be given about the idea of enlarging common software systems by implementing algorithms in order to generate decisions. Therefore some basics of Solution Systems will be explained giving an insight into the theory about computer generated decisions. It is a fact that decision making is basic of all kinds of business [Gre2004]. Therefore the question has to be asked why most common software systems are only used for handling data and why decision support systems are not yet an inseparable part of these common systems. Thereafter the possibilities and benefits of an integration of business intelligence systems into business software systems will be discussed. After the introduction about theory of automation of decisions, some ideas will be explained as how such systems may work and how they could be implemented in complex business systems. In the next step a new developed system for a small chemical company will be shown as a real example of such an implementation. Finally there will be a critical review of the shown ideas. This publication will complete a series of articles about the general idea of Solution Systems.
