Software Testing and Test generation are carried out manually in many organizations and is a time consuming and inefficient method. Model based testing (MBT) offer lot of promises for effective and efficient way of automatic generation of tests and offer better support for automated testing. Despite of the benefits of MBT, its adoption in real industrial practice is very limited. The thesis work is aimed to make MBT process and its adoption more efficient and effective. In simple words, Model Based Development (MBD) includes generation of code from system models. Model Based Testing includes automatic generation of test infrastructure from test models. Both MBD and MBT involves activities such as creation of models (system/test), model checking and generation of platformspecific models using model compilers. In this thesis we purpose approaches for making MBT more efficient and easily adoptable by reusing the artifacts of the MBD like system models, model compilers and model checkers for the purpose of MBT. An important step in adoption of MBT is selection of appropriate MBT tool. These tools vary on different criteria like test modeling languages, algorithms, domain of testing and so on. Our work also describes a comparative study of various MBT tools that can guide in selection of suitable tool.
