the Magnetic Measurements Group at LBL surveyed the magnetic fields of 104 magnets with a measuring system controlled by a special-purpose digital computer.l,Z In July of 1970 the special-purpose computer was replaced by a Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-5.The modified system has demonstrated flexibility, convenience, and reliability during the execution of 13 varied magnet field measuring programs.Since March 1972 the syst em has been measuring three orthogonal components of magnetic field at each grid intersection in each pass. This paper discusses some of the advantages of the general-purpose computer and describes recent developments of the system.
