The stored-product techniques of digital signal processing are evaluated and their properties compared to processing with multipliers. It is shown that there are advantages in speed of operation, cost, and accuracy, and that the number of stored bits can be reduced where necessary. The increased use of these techniques in future VLSI processors is anticipated. 8 references.
