Communication and Collaboration Support in An Age of Information Scarcity
Jonathan T. Grudin · 2004
Abstract. A steady expansion in the use of the Web, the Internet, cell phones, and other technologies has driven considerable change over the past ten years. This chapter looks at some trends and emerging technologies and behaviors that suggest that the next ten years will not be more of the same. We appear to be entering an era of more rapid and more radical change. “A machine with vast logic power, capable of storing enormous quantities of information… A much greater growth rate than an exponential increase … The dam is bursting … Mankind today faces an information deluge of unimaginable complexity … We must protect computer users from the vast and overwhelming mass of data… ” – James Martin, 1973
