Berlioz: Compiling Oz to Java Bytecode.

Lê Xuân Thắng · 2000

. Oz is a multi-paradigm programming language that aims to unify the advantages of object-oriented, concurrent constraint and functional programming. Java, apart from being the name of a programming language itself, is a portable runtime environment whose presence has become ever so prevalent. A compilation scheme from the language Oz to Java bytecode, therefore, would seem promising and interesting, both for practical usefulness and theoretical aspects. The project Berlioz was started to assess the feasibility of such a scheme. This paper intends to give a brief overview on the current status, as well as experiences encountered during the course of the project. 1 Introduction 1.1 Oz The language Oz has been developed since 1991 at the Universitt des Saarlandes, Germany, with the first implementation being DFKI Oz 1.0. Since the initial inception, which includes logic variables and firstclass functions, Oz has had some addition during the years, most notably objects, finite-d...
