Imposed versus self-generated questions implications for reference practice

Implications of the imposed query model that informs reference training and practice are explored and expand ed upon in order to incorporate them into the existing models of reference work. Items considered include the need to identify questions by type, the effect of stereotypes on reference work, the importance of context to questions, the probabilistic nature of right answers for imposed queries, and considerations for reference serv ice evaluation. A checklist for incorporating imposed queries into reference services is provided.
