Ontologies for indexing Technical manuals for instruction.

S.C. Kabel, Bob J. Wielinga, Robert de Hoog · 2000

Abstract This paper describes how technical manuals can be reused for training purposes. Technical manuals are separated into document fragments. Different viewpoints on indexing lead to a separate set of ontologies. Syntax, semantics and instructional role are represented in separate ontologies. Document fragments are indexed using the set of ontologies, and stored in a database. Indexing from different viewpoints allows flexible retrieval and leaves the way instructional material is composed open. 1
