PACPAK: A Set of FORTRAN Subroutines for Creating and Manipulating Data Structures
Eugene Hartquist, Warren A. Hunt · UR Research (University of Rochester) · 1980
PACPAK is a collection of subroutines for creating and manipulating data structures in a FORTRAN environment. PACPAK's central data structure is called a PACKET and consists of two parts: a fixed length RECORD and a variable length LINEAR LIST. Both the FIELDS of a record and the ELEMENTS of a list may be repeatedly accessed and modified. Packets are given INTEGER names called POINTERS, which are treated as new data type by PACPAK. Pointers may be stored in the record or list part of a packet to implement complicated data structures. Each Packet is a member of some CLASS. Packets in a particular class have a common user defined format which is accessible by name. PACPAK is modelled after the data management package WORM which was developed at the University of Edinburgh by M.H. Liardet. PACPAK provides error checking, selective tracing facilities, and is designed to be portable. PACPAK's routines are coded in FLECS, a FORTRAN based structured programming language developed by T. Beyer at the University of Oregon.
