Image segmentation is an importent component of imago processing sirce significant time can be saved if a region of interest is extracted by al efficient segmentation algorithm. A dynamic programming image segmentation algorithnr is presented. The algorithm is applicable to images with a large matrix of gray levels of pixel values and generates a path separating the object from the background. The report of a.n application of the proposed algorithm to digitised mammotrams complements its description.
