Distributed systems are thought to be one of the best choices for the design of fault-tolerant systems. In this paper, the authors refer to a particular multimicroprocessor system, whose design embodies features intended to enhance fault-tolerance. A general structure for fault-handling is given; in its framework, several reconfiguration strategies of varying complexity are examined; their relative advantages and disadvantages are briefly discussed. The authors show how the proposed system lends itself to an organic and well-structured organization of fault-treatment. 15 references.
