Multiple Cross-Cutting Architectural Views

Kim Mens · VUBIR (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) · 2000

With this position paper we want to make a case for the relevance of the ideas of multidimensional separation of concerns at the architectural level. Traditional approaches towards software architecture seem to take for granted that a software system exhibits a single software architecture, of which the elements map more or less directly to design or implementation-level components. We claim that multiple, potentially overlapping, cross-cutting architectural views can provide a much better insight in the overall structure, organization and functionality of a software system than one single architecture which is often strongly biased to the implementation structure of the system.
