Expansion in Generalized Eigenvectors

It was shown in the introduction to Chapter 13 that expressions of type (13.0.1) for the expansion of a vector in eigenvectors of an operator A in a finite-dimensional Hilbert space H cannot be directly generalized to the case of an infinite-dimensional space because the operator A may have no eigenvectors.
