Teaching recursion using recursively-generated geometric designs

Aaron J. Gordon · Journal of computing sciences in colleges · 2006

Teaching about recursion usually involves programs arriving at answers and displaying the results (for example: quicksort, summing elements in a linked list, evaluation of an expression tree). This paper discusses problems that naturally display results at each recursive step. Examples of these programs include those that visually display fractals and other geometric shapes recursively.
