Modelling Neural Networks

In executing tasks involving intelligent information processing, the human brain outperforms the digital computer. The fundamental difference between the functioning of the human brain and the digital computer is that the digital computers are programmed for applications in AI, whereas the human brain made up of a large number of computing elements—the 'neurons'—has the ability to learn from experience. Artificial neural network designs adopt the structure of the brain to try to emulate the intelligent information processing methods of the brain. The idea of looking directly at the massively parallel realizations of intelligent activity promises to be fruitful for the study of computation in general.
