Inaccuracies in the calculation of standard deviation with electronic calculators

The problems arising with data sets consisting of tightly bunched arrays and severe calculation round-off errors when electronic calculators are used to calculate standard deviation of data are discussed. A simple remedy to the problem is set forth briefly.
