In this paper the 0.5 standard CMOS technology has been used to design a new voltage reference. The proposed circuit uses the characteristics of MOS transistor which works in weak inversion and strong inversion to generate positive temperature coefficient current and negative temperature coefficient current and then puts those two currents together to through a resistor to form the temperature-independent reference voltage. The voltage reference circuit in this paper can work properly and provide 0.5V reference voltage with 1.2V supply voltage. The experiment results show that the temperature coefficient of reference voltage from-25°C to 100°C is 52.3 ppm/°C. The proposed circuit has been adopted by white light LED back light driver chip, the layout area of this voltage reference and the area of the layout is 0.055 mm2.
