Online graphic systems speed exploratory analysis

RM Hodgson, G.D. Dealy, Scott Mangum, Chris Sharpe · World Oil; (United States) · 1982

The growing number of exploratory wells being drilled world-wide, coupled with the ever increasing volume of technical data to be dealt with and the present shortage of experienced personnel, promises to give computer technology a strong place in future exploration methods. Although still in the formative stages, online exploration graphic systems enable explorationists to retrieve and manipulate data across several disciplines (i.e. from land acquisition data to geology and geophysics) at one sitting, in an effort to identify drillable prospects. Data gathering and interpretation can therefore take place in time periods far shorter than ever before possible. The development, design and current uses of these online exploration systems are addressed. 2 refs.
